not too much to say today.  I wanted to use this as a gauge of my current fitness.  I have about 5 or 6 weeks until my half, which is my goal race.  Last year I uncorked one here at this race.  So I guess I also wanted to see how this years fitness level compared to last year.   I really wanted to run a couple seconds under 6 per mile.
The pace went out fine.  I was in the second pack, behind all the official track club racing team guys.  The 5:52 first mile was just fine.  It felt comfortable. Then from there it settled into a 6 min miles +/- a second or two. It was actually a pretty boring race for the most part.  More like a time trial.  I passed a couple guys in the first two miles, then another two between 3 and 5 miles.  Then one more guy between 7 and 8.  Other than that it was just me and the pavement.  It was like a tempo run without my music.  I made up 7 seconds in the last mile so that was a 5:53, which is good.  Unfortunately I didn't put another couple of those miles in, so I didn't go under the hour mark.  And it was 60 sec over my PR from last year.

10 miles in 60:12- ave pace 6:02 -

2nd place and first in AG

The good thing was that the pace was more or less comfortable.  The bad thing is that I think I got into that zone and stayed there for too long.  I needed to go one slight notch higher.  Either way, I feel good about the race.  I think I can sustain that 6 min pace for three more miles, which is the ultimate goal.

You da man, Tim!!! You kicked butt at this race. I can't even fathom running that fast. Way to go man. Very cool. By the way, what was the winning time?

Nice job. It was a great workout even if a couple of seconds slower than you wanted.

Did you have a cup of Tang before the race? If not, I think that cost you a handful of seconds!

You are sickening fast!!!!

Can't wait for your real goal race.

Congrats on the 2nd overall and 1st AG!!! :)

WoW Tim! Congrats on 2nd overall and 1st in age group. Sounds like you will be ready for your goal race.

You started in the second pack behind all of the official track club racing team guys. Were you in a citizens race or racing against them as well?

From timp on Tue, Sep 14, 2010 at 11:28:05 from 70.211.235.90

Thanks, Fly

No those guys just went out faster. All but one was doing the 5 mile race and I didn't want to do a 5:30 first mile. Next year I should be able to qualify for the masters team. Then I too can sport the shirt. :)

From fly on the Wall on Tue, Sep 14, 2010 at 11:33:14 from 204.113.19.47

Even more incredible! Does the shirt qualify you for reimbursement of any race expenses?

From timp on Tue, Sep 14, 2010 at 12:45:32 from 136.182.2.26

actually yes they do reimburse for some racing. I'm not exactly sure how it works but they reimburse for up to $599 per person per year.

From fly on the Wall on Tue, Sep 14, 2010 at 13:00:41 from 204.113.19.47

Sweet! That will make for a nice reward for reaching geezerhood.
